Anyone thinking about meta data as optional filtering criteria for toots reading? Like get all toots from my area?

@kai sounds very privacy invasive. You get a movement profile and know when the person is on vacation. I think tags would be a better solution.

@nalivaj Privacy is the main concern. It must be optional data to actively accept on each toot.

@kai getting more awake I think it would be favorable when an app had a shortcut to add tags like automaticaly convert current area to tags: "#DE #Berlin #Kreuzberg"

@kai what about a commin hashtag structure for example #DE-Ber-Kreuzbert this way you could even filter for stuff that is in the region or more close by. And it doesn't matter where someone is as much as about what the person is talking.

@nalivaj a common hashtag is the quickest way to add this. But has more problems on agreeing to such standards.

@kai Maybe creating a common location-tag-pedia... could help or show why it's impossible.

@nalivaj @kai Probably impossible without heuristics / guessing. Hashtag Berlin could mean "Berlin, Germany" or "Berlin, MD, USA" or "Berlin, OH, USA", or "Berlín Airport, Colombia", and more.

@djh @kai yes the Ambiguityis really big when you see it in a global context. This is why I suggested in another toot to use multiple tags e.g. #berlin #germany

@kai I looked into location data on :mastodon: a while ago; check out: github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/ without location all you can do is filter by tags and hope for folks tagging all their geo-relevant toots.
